SLHW Re-Organization

Dear SLHW members:

On Monday July 2, the officers held a special meeting to discuss the future of the Society of Latino/Hispanic Writers of San Antonio. Those present were Lupe Gonzalez, Bertha Jacobson, Jackie Cortez, and Ruben Soto.

The main topic of discussion was the restructuring of our group and of the monthly meetings. We have deviated from our original intention – which was to help Latino writers get published. We want to refocus on that – we want to grow our writer members – and not rely on the old format of inviting guests who would mostly promote their own books.

Before we make any future plans, we want to ask if anyone is interested in becoming an officer. It is imperative that we have the right people in place that will help carry this new vision forward. Please let us know if you are interested in becoming an officer by responding to this email and CCing  Rubenso99@yahoo.com .

We also want to know who is still interested in continuing with the Society so that we can keep you in our email distribution list. If you are not interested, then please let us know. We fully understand your decision.

There are many new venues for writers and we want to help you get published in your area of interest – be it poetry, fiction or non-fiction. We plan on having critiques to assist you in making your manuscript the best it can be. We want to sponsor workshops to help you improve as a writer. We will schedule special networking events where we inform you about the latest trends in the publishing industry.

We welcome any other suggestions or recommendations you may have for our new vision; they will be gladly accepted and appreciated.

This July, 2012 will mark the Society’s 8th anniversary and we want to celebrate. On July 12, 2004, a few of us met at Barnes & Noble, San Pedro Crossing, and made history.

We want you to join us in this celebration - a time for fellowship and networking with other writers and a time to remember what we have done, what we are doing and what we hope to accomplish in the future.

We will wait for your response and we appreciate your continuous support of the Society.

Sincerely,

Ruben Soto, Founder
