Awaken the Sleeping Poet

Awaken the Sleeping Poet
Thursday Night, October 29, at 7 p.m.
Featuring: Performance Poet, John Eubanks

John Eubanks is a fan favorite, and returns for an encore presentation of his appearance last year here at the Awaken the Sleeping Poet venue. He delivers a hilarious, original performance set wherein he wears many hats (literally). John is an author and actor who earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Southwest Texas State University and a Master of Arts in Theatre from Stephen F. Austin State University. He was a teacher for thirty-two years, the last seven of which he was a certified trainer for the New Jersey Writing Project in Texas, an acclaimed teacher-training experience (now known as Abydos Learning International). He is the author of the chapbook, Second Stories and has been published in Inkwell Echoes, Patchwork Poems, The International Poets Society Journal and the 1998 ALA award winning anthology, Poetry After Lunch. A member of the San Antonio Poets Association for the last nine years, John has conducted several writing workshops, has been a featured reader at various local poetry venues, and was a featured reader at the 2006 National Federation of State Poetry Societies convention here in San Antonio. He has worked in different capacities in nearly a hundred theatrical productions and acted over fifty roles ranging from Shakespearean parts to melodrama villains. This year he has performed in Angel Street at the Harlequin Dinner Theatre, in As You Like It at Magi Theatre's Shakespeare in the Park, and in The Day They Kidnapped the Pope at the Extended Run Players of Incarnate Word.

Readings will start right at 7:00 p.m., so please be on time or you will miss some excellent poetry. At 8:00 we have open mic; remember, open mic is where anyone from the audience can participate and read their own (or someone else's) poetry.
