SLHW Honors Past President
Society of Latino and Hispanic Writers of San Antonio
honors Past president, Vincent Bosquez
The current board of the Society of Latino and Hispanic Writers of San Antonio would like to recognize an individual whose contributions to the society have been of great significance.
Under his dedicated leadership in the office of President from 2006 to 2010, the society gained visibility and recognition within the San Antonio community.
Because of his determination we achieved non-profit status. This enables the Society to apply for grants. We are currently working to obtain funds through this method so that the goals we set since the beginning may be realized.
He created a blog, SLHW Literary Notes and has diligently blogged for several years about our Society and other literary events in San Antonio. In doing this, he also created a very effective way to communicate not only official news, but also members’ writing news and accomplishments. All we have to do is send him an e-mail and he will post it.
During his tenure, the Society also sponsored a writing contest, hosted numerous prestigious speakers like Marcela Landers, Laura Esquivel, Diana Gonzales Bertrand and Diane Lopez. He worked closely with Barnes and Noble to coordinate efforts to increase Hispanic and Latino activities in the bookstore as well as in the community.
Because of his sense of direction, we have forged relationships with writing institutions, writer’s groups and associations and the Society is now well-recognized in the area.
For his dedicated leadership, determined effort and diligent hard work, the Society of Latino and Hispanic Writers of San Antonio would like to present this token of appreciation to Vincent Bosquez, the Society’s president from 2006 to 2010.
