Poetry Workshop

Good Day my fellow poets and supporters of poetry,
Please join us on Wednesday, October 20th at 6:00pm at Barnes and Noble, Ingram Park, for our fabulous poetry workshop with Jim Brandenburg who constantly amazes us with his extraordinary way of helping us think outside the box. We have had some amazing poetry come out of this workshop. The workshop is followed by open mic hosted by Josie Mixon where you can read your own poetry or from your favorite author. Our special feature presents at 8:00pm and our featured guest is the wonderful Jim LaVilla-Havellin. Please read below.
Jim LaVilla-Havelin is a poet, educator, and arts administrator. Author of four books of poems – RITES OF PASSAGE (Charon Press 1968), WHAT THE DIAMOND DOES IS HOLD IT ALL IN (White Pine Press 1978),
SIMON’S MASTERPIECE (White Pine Press 1983), and most recently, COUNTING (Pecan Grove Press, 2010).
LaVilla-Havelin’s poems have appeared in TEXAS OBSERVER, anthologies - IS THIS FOREVER. OR WHAT? and BETWEEN HEAVEN & TEXAS, and in the 2006 - 2011 editions of the TEXAS POETRY CALENDAR, and in BIG LAND,BIG SKY,BIG HAIR, Dos Gatos Press’ anthology from the Texas Poetry Calendar.
LaVilla-Havelin’s essays and criticism have appeared in CERAMICS MONTHLY, CERAMICS: ART & PERCEPTION, and SURFACE DESIGN JOURNAL. A co-founder of the San Antonio Arts Education Task Force, LaVilla-Havelin is the Director of the Young Artist Programs at the Southwest School of Art.
La Villa-Havelin is the San Antonio Coordinator for National Poetry Month, and is the Poetry Editor at the Express-News.
