A message from Jennifer Iruegas, President of OLLU's Gay Straight Alliance: My classmates and I are reaching out to you to support our effort to help stop the rising epidemic of bullying, specifically bullying that targets youth who are or are perceived to be lesbian, gay, transgender, or bisexual. This opportunity to act as an active ally and advocate comes to you at a time of increased importance. The Safe Zone Training is organized by social work majors who have witnessed the strong need for the community and employees of the school districts to assist in the fight against bullycide, bullying, and hate crimes geared toward the LGBTQ population. Gay and lesbian youth deserve our support as they often struggle in isolation. This event will provide a chance for gay youth and their allies to come together in mutual support.
We really appreciate your time in taking these few minutes to read over this message and consider your option to help students break their silence.
In community,
