Born in Midland, Texas, James Muñoz graduated from Texas Tech University with a BA in Broadcast Journalism in 1997. In 1998, James landed his first job as a news reporter at KVII-TV in Amarillo. A year later, he went to work in the Coastal Bend. While in Corpus Christi, Muñoz covered Hurricane Bret and was on the scene during the hostage standoff involving now-retired Archbishop Patrick Flores in San Antonio.

A real coup for James came when he conducted an interview with CBS news legend Walter Cronkite when Cronkite visited Corpus Christi in 2000. James then headed to East Texas, where he served as weekend anchor for KTRE-TV in Lufkin. The stars led him back across the state the following year, where he signed as news director and anchor for the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts for the NBC affiliate in San Angelo.

In 2003, James began reporting for KENS 5 Eyewitness News. Since then he has covered numerous key stories for KENS 5. He spent 10 days in Louisiana reporting on the devastation from Hurricane Katrina. James also provided coverage of Hurricane Ike and the Pasta de Conchos mine explosion in Mexico.

With ties that bind him across the Lone Star state, from the Texas panhandle to the Rio Grande, James Muñoz is a true son of Texas.
