This event is the first time that the publication will be available to the public. XXEP and San Anto Cultural Arts will host an open mic event with a special reading featuring Desahogate contributors.

Who: As part of its mission, the Xicana Xicano Education Project (XXEP) works to strengthen the community through self-determination, education, cultura y arte. It is the mission of San Anto Cultural Arts to foster human and community development through community-based arts.

Why: It has been 5 years since the Xicana Xicano Education Project and In Tilli, In Tlapalli Press published Desahogate #1: Growing Up Xicana/o, and we are excited to present Desahogate #2 to the community. Desahogate embodies XXEP’s mission of inspiriting and uniting San Antonio’s Xicana/o community, and is a means of recording, preserving, and sharing stories from our lived experiences. Being a community-based publication, Desahogate allows unheard voices from the community to be expressed. Come share, exchange, and learn from one another in a dialogue that carries beyond the printed page.

Where: Guadalupe Street Coffee, 1320 Guadalupe, San Antonio, Tejas.

When: Friday, January 22, 2010, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This is a family-friendly free event sponsored by the Xicana Xicano Education Project and San Anto Cultural Arts.
