Awaken the Sleeping Poet at the Twig
Tuesday, August 10, at the Twig Book Shop, Featuring:
John Eubanks, and Juan Perez

The Featured Readers begin at 7 p.m. Open mic begins at 8 p.m., so bring a poem to share, because Open Mic is where anybody in the audience can share their poetry. Then, after open mic, John and Juan will close with an encore poem, each.

John Eubanks

John Eubanks returns to the Awaken the Sleeping Poet venue for another of his wild and crazy guy performances. He is an author and actor who earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Southwest Texas State University and a Master of Arts in Theater from Stephen F. Austin State University. John was a teacher for thirty-two years, the last seven of which he was a certified trainer for the New Jersey Writing Project in Texas (now known as Abydos Learning International), an acclaimed teacher-training program. He is the author of the chapbook, Second Stories and has been published in Inkwell Echoes, Patchwork Poems, The International Poets Society Journal and the 1998 ALA award winning anthology, Poetry After Lunch. A member of the San Antonio Poets Association for the last ten years, John has conducted several writing workshops, has been a featured reader at various local poetry venues and was a featured reader at the 2006 National Association of State Poetry Societies convention. He has worked in different capacities in close to a hundred theatrical productions and acted over fifty roles ranging from Shakespearean parts to melodrama villains

Juan Perez


After a decade of military service, including the First Gulf War (1991), Juan Manuel Perez is now a public high school history teacher and author of six poetry chapbooks, including Dial H For Horror (2006), plus one full contemporary multi-culture poetry collection, Another Menudo Sunday (2007), and the soon to be published O’ Dark Heaven, a full collection of dark poetry.
Juan, a Mexican-American, is also a member of the San Antonio Poet’s Association and the Science Fiction Poetry Association, as well as alumni to the great Chicano poet Trinidad Sanchez, Jr. He has also been a featured poet at some San Antonio poetry venues and enjoys reading his poetry at others even when he is not featured.

Juan has recently published his poetry in International Poetry Review, Illumen, Star*Line: Journal of the Science Fiction Poetry Association, The Poet Magazine, di-verse-city, Voices Along The River, The Dreamcatcher, Inkwell Echoes, The Palm’s Leaf and Message Of The Muse.

He is currently revising a manuscript called W.U.I.: Written Under The Influence of Trinidad Sanchez, Jr. and will be looking for a publisher soon. This comic book fanatic, science-fiction addict, and poetry lover lives in his hometown of La Pryor, Texas.
