FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8, 6-9 PM
for
"Pintame una Flor y te cuento una Love Story/
Paint Me a Flower and I'll Tell You a Love Story"
Dear Friends of Bihl Haus Arts,
When writer Barbara Renaud Gonzalez and visual artist Terry Ybanez mentioned that the last 50 cloth-bound library copies of Barbara’s novel, Golondrina, why did you leave me?, were available, we immediately saw the opportunity for a ‘novel’ fundraiser that united the literary and visual arts of San Antonio--at Bihl Haus Arts we firmly believe in the illuminating power of art and stories.
David Zamora Casas said "YES!!" And so did 49 other San Antonio artists, including Raul Caste llanos, Joan Frederick, Albert Alvarez, Danville Chadbourne, Jimena Marin, Russell Stephenson, and Wesley Harvey, when we invited them to join us in this 'novel' Bihl Ha us Arts collaborative project. Each artist will embellish with their unique artistic vision and offer for silent auction the cloth-covered edition of Barbara’s book—the first Chicana novel to be published by the University of Texas Press (April 2009).
The evening, titled "Pintame una Flor y te cuento una Love Story," includes a Reading, Silent Auction, & Art Pachanga at Bihl Haus Arts on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2010. Cocktails begin at 6:00 pm followed by the first-of-its-kind-ever Silent Auction of artist-embellished books from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. The evening includes antojitos, música y mas.
Much mas! Barbara will read--and oooooh what a performance she gives!--from her passionate novel to the rhythms of jazz percussionist Joaquin Abrego. Actors will also recreate excerpts from the book, climaxing in the scintillating salsa-rhumba-tango-flamenco dance scene. The evening culminates with poolside (weather permitting) dancing and birthday cake.
Whaaaa? Birthday cake? Yes, birthday cake! Bihl Haus Arts will also be celebrating its 5th birthday! Proceeds from the silent auction will help ensure that Bihl Haus Arts continues to provide quality programs for years to come. So, please plan to join us for this dazzling celebration of text, art, music, food, dance, and 5 years of--ok, I'm going to say it just one last time--novel programming at Bihl Haus Arts on Friday, October 8th, from 6 to 9 pm.
